Feng Shui Ebooks: The Way to a Well-Balanced Life

Learning the art of feng shui may seem to be a daunting task because it has been perceived as a practice full of magic and mystery. This notion of ambiguity and mysticism is what drives people to embark on such a special undertaking. The truth is that the ancient Chinese practice of manipulating the flow of energy to create balance and harmony has an approach based on practicality and sensibility rather than mystical and magical. With that said, the methods can be learned by simply referring to instructional materials such as ebooks. This somewhat debunks the idea that only trained practitioners can utilise feng shui, but it does not completely take away the mystery that surrounds the abstract concepts present in feng shui.

Feng shui has grown in popularity over the years because many people have superstitious tendencies, which make them more susceptible to certain beliefs, regardless of their religious affiliations. The beauty of this vulnerability is that it makes people have a better understanding of balance and harmony and how they apply to day to day living. Feng shui ebooks further widen the understanding of the concept of energy flow and how they can be controlled in order to attract positive energy and to keep negative energy at bay. This is related to the more popular concept of yin and yang, wherein the balance is said to attract the good things in life such as greater wealth, healthier body, and more harmonious relationships. These are some of the most desired benefits that feng shui may provide if applied to houses, gardens, and buildings. Experts or practitioners have done a good job of communicating the positive effects in various media platforms that is why feng shui has such a large following worldwide.

The main goal is to balance the elements in a particular environment in order to attract positive energy. This may seem hard to grasp in the initial stage, but the idea is simply to position things in the house so that one element does not overpower the other. For example, darker areas of the place should be balanced with light, or entrance areas should be free from obstruction so as to create a more inviting and welcoming feel to the visitors. More concrete examples can be found in ebooks, but more importantly, readers will have a better understanding of the concept and that they will find themselves using the methods like professionals. The advantage of knowing the basics, is that it can be used practically in every part of the house, including the garden, the garage, the basement, and other areas that seem to have been neglected. It is also not limited to houses; in fact, more and more offices and buildings have sought the help of experts to make the place of work more conducive for employees to become more productive. Superstitious or not, people have began to accept that the application of feng shui really helps in the creation of a well-balanced life.

I hope you enjoyed reading my article as much as I enjoyed pondering over and writing it. For more related topics and complete eBook Publications, please visit my website Feng Shui Garden – a Modern and Unique Concept to Feng Shui in the Garden and Harmonious Chi (Qi) Within Our Lives.

How Doors Can Affect Your Health and Wealth in Feng Shui

Do you find money leaving you as quickly as it comes in, virtually flying out of your hands? Do people in your house bicker constantly? Do you sometimes feel dizzy, nauseated or even anxious for no reason? The placement of the doors in your house could be partly to blame.

Doors facing each other across a hallway should either be completely aligned with each other, or not aligned at all. Slightly misaligned doors can lead to arguments and bickering in your home.

In a worst-case scenario, the frame of a door will coincide with the center of an opposing door. This can cause depression, nausea, dizziness, and negative effects on behavior, emotions and general health. You can balance the chi of misaligned doors by employing the five elemental colors, as well as by hanging wind chimes or a crystal between the two doors.

Misaligned doors create bad Feng Shui and ailments whether the doors are located in a single-family home or in an apartment building. If two apartment front doors are misaligned, place a photo of your child or another pleasant picture on the wall closest to the other apartment door.

    Front Door Feng Shui
While fully aligned doors are good Feng Shui in most cases, one exception exists. The front door should never be completely aligned with the back door or bathroom door. If it is, crystals or windchimes hung in the space between the doors will slow the rushing chi and prevent your wealth from rushing out or, worse, down the toilet.

Let’s explore some other possible door placements, how they affect the flow of chi in your home, and some common Feng Shui cures.

Long, Narrow Corridor with Doors at Either End
This placement of doors, typical in railroad-style apartments, can cause money to rush out of your life, resulting in financial trouble. It’s even worse if the corridor runs along the center line of the building. That can cause liver, gallbladder and spleen problems. Placing mirrors to create a sense of wider space and hanging crystals or windchimes to slow the flow of chi can help.

    Piercing Heart Doors
Three or more doors on both sides of a hallway that are in a row, aligned or partially aligned, can cause heart problems, headaches, and problems with the liver, gallbladder and spleen, as well as conflicts in the home. Hang two crystal balls or two windchimes to cure this placement. One should hang in line with the center line of the door, while the second should be in the middle of the corridor between the doors.

“Empty” doors – An empty door describes a door frame or passageway with no actual door to separate the spaces. An empty door is good Feng Shui if it is between a kitchen and dining room. An empty door to a bedroom may encourage an affair or lead to the husband or wife not being home often. To cure empty doors in Feng Shui, hang a regular curtain, beaded curtain, or a three-part curtain in the doorway. You can also add nine multifaceted, spherical glass crystals: four on each side of the door frame and one in the center.

Remember, intention plays a large role in Feng Shui remedies, so envision the space being filled and visualize the positive consequences you expect the cure will encourage.

Feng Shui Outdoor Water Fountains and Prosperity

A few years ago on Mother’s Day, one of my clients received a beautiful outdoor fountain as a gift from her son and husband. They placed it in the front yard so they could all enjoy it as they came and went. The following November she made another appointment with me to come back to the house because her husband was having problems at work and it was getting worse and worse. I arrived on a Saturday. He had been fired the day before. The reason for his dismissal didn’t have anything to do with his abilities or value to the company, in fact, the head of the company held him in high regard. He had been arguing with his immediate supervisor for months and when the head of the company went on vacation, the supervisor fired my client’s husband. Sneaky, sneaky. The whole thing happened because the fountain was placed in the wrong spot. My client was excited about her gift and never thought it could create any problems so she didn’t think to check about the right spot to place it. They just put it where they could enjoy it the most. That’s what most people do with outdoor fountains.

Feng shui practitioners who use a compass will typically place fountains or other moving water features in the north, southeast or east of a home or office. Even that isn’t a safe bet. Moving water is an “activator” and you need to be careful where you put it. Moving water on the OUTSIDE of a building activates the flying star energy pattern INSIDE the building in the compass section it is adjacent to. If the energy pattern is positive, then the fountain will enhance that positive energy. If the energy pattern is negative, the fountain will make it worse. My clients placed their fountain next to a compass section with a negative energy pattern and that’s when the problems at work began for my client’s husband. The exterior fountain was activating a 3 water star inside the house – a star known for arguments and legal issues. The arguing with the supervisor began when the fountain was placed in the yard.

Flying star energy patterns are determined by the year a building is built and the compass degree it faces. My book Creating A Haven: Simple Steps For A Healthy And Nurturing Home has the flying star energy patterns for every building built between 1924 and 2024 so you can easily find out how the energy patterns are affecting you in your home or office. Whenever you try any feng shui technique, such as adding a water feature for prosperity, write down when you applied it and what it was supposed to do. Then you can check your notes later and see what kind of results you got.

Five Easy Tips For Conquering Clutter

Do You Hate Cleaning As Much As I Do?

If you are the kind of person who hates to clean, and tidy up, but you also love the way your house looks when it is clean, you might live with a great deal of tension just beneath the radar, and not understand why it is there. You get a glimpse of the stress your clutter causes when something forces you to take a good long look at it, and perhaps, at that point, you feel overwhelmed.

Because you know that once you start, you are not going to want to stop until it is all done. If bursts of activity followed by long periods of letting the tension build and basically, doing nothing, is an unacknowledged system you have got going, it must work for you.

But if it worked well, you would not be reading this article!

    What to Try, Instead

    Planned Sprinting

What I mean by that is that, rather than waiting for unplanned marathons of cleaning and clutter-clearing, you could plan briefs sprints. Set aside an hour a day or an hour a week and during that time, work full out at whatever task you have set, whether that is cleaning a drawer or a room.

The reason you will be willing to stop before it is all done despite the discomfort of knowing it does not look at good as it could is that you will trust yourself to the same thing tomorrow or next week. And the week after that one.

I believe that part of the reason you use that unplanned marathon system is that once you recognize a willingness to work on your clutter, you feel compelled to do as much as you can while the mood has struck because you have no idea when it will happen again. If you knew you could count on yourself to come back next week and do it, cleaning until you drop would not appeal to you as much.

Work on One Room at a Time

I suggest working on whole rooms at a time, and perhaps getting help with each room. In most families, even if they are all cleaning at the same time, they are doing it in different rooms.

You vacuum the living room, I’ll mop the floor in the kitchen. And while it is true that you cover more ground that way, it feels more overwhelming because each person has to work alone and has a larger area to work on each time.

Wouldn’t it be easier to conquer each room if you only had to do a section at a time, were not doing it alone and only had to work for an hour?

In the next part of this series, we will identify three more tips for clearing clutter.

The Arts, Entertainment and Feng Shui Connection

There are many levels of connection between the Arts, Entertainment and Feng Shui.

Historically, in China, all three were supported by society’s upper class. In the past they were only available to the elite members of that class. Because of this basic connection, in China art was directly influenced by Feng Shui principles. With world travel, many of these principles that were applied to art and design in China became a part of the arts in other cultures. The philosophies behind these principles have had an effect on many artists, composers, designers, writers and entertainment producers worldwide for centuries. This was and is true whether the artists were fully aware of the influence or not.

Today, with the rising popularity of Feng Shui in Europe, USA and the Western World, we are able to look at this influence with a better understanding and to use these principles consciously. This allows us to create and use art and entertainment on a much more powerful level. A level that creates greater balance and harmony in our lives and in the world. Feng Shui is a key element in any creative endeavor because it provides a framework for our intention to be manifested and empowered.

Painting, sculpture, photography all of the visual arts employ elements of Feng Shui both in their creation and in their application. Color, content, subject, form, etc., are choices of the artist. These choices are based on the artists “intent,” each choice the artist makes is to convey a feeling or message to the viewer of the finished piece. Most artists operate on a subconscious level that is plugged into the universal laws on which Feng Shui principles are based. When an artist uses a red background with a black horse as the subject he/she is already plugged into the subconscious yet universal meanings of these elements. The art buyer taps into the same universal laws although their conscious and subconscious reasons for being attracted to the art can be quite different from the artist’s. The same Feng Shui principles are still at work. The red and black attract specific types of energy to the life of the buyer and the space in which it is hung. It is important, when purchasing and hanging art, to have expert advise on the best placement for the enhancement of your life as well as your decor. This applies to all types of art. We are attracted to art on a subconscious level. It appeals to us on this level and we must be sure it is working for us and not against us. For example: a person loves the color blue and has a beautiful painting hung in his/her bedroom, which incorporates many gorgeous shades of blue and it complements the decor. Sounds like a perfect choice, right? Not exactly, because it is a painting of a woman alone hanging in the relationship area of the bedroom and her/his desire in life was to find a life partner. Inappropriate, color and content to draw the energy desired to her/his life. We must place our art with care and intention.

“Music has the power to soothe the savage beast.” Why is this so true? Music can be an energetic adjustment; sound is used in Feng Shui as an energy cure because music/sound can totally transform the energy in your body and space. Yes, it is powerful. Powerful enough to soothe the savage beast in all of us and much more. Music is very aligned with universal energy and as in the visual arts it starts with the creator, which in this case is the writer then goes to the composer. From the composer it flows through the musicians, sound engineer and comes to you. How and where you use it can change your life. Excellence is achieved by employing these principles to music creation, production and application.

All forms of entertainment follow the same rules: movies, plays, musicals, etc., they all begin with the writer, director, and producer, whether they are aware of it or not, they are creating the mood through the use of Feng Shui principles. What is the feeling they wish to create? What does it look like? Set and costume design? Lighting and sound? What is the viewers experience? These are all vital elements in every production and the conscious use of Feng Shui will help create the mood, affect and the success of any production. We all benefit from Feng Shui when we attend an art show, concert, movie, musical or play that we enjoy. The lights, sounds, colors and content all affect us on a conscious and subconscious level, changing our energy and the energy of the audience as a whole. We are inspired, transported and transformed by a painting, sculpture, musical, play, concert or movie. It is a Feng Shui adjustment to our personal energy and the energy of those with whom we share the experience.

    More Asian Decor Tips

Asian decoration is both elegant and Pretty. If you’re looking to rebuild your homes decor, create it a little oomph or just make it stand out without too much flare that stress attention there is no better way than going with a little Middle Eastern flavor.

Nowadays as intricate as it might seem Asian decor is pretty simplistic all you need is the appropriate frame of mind, a little inspiration and the right colors. Unlike most American decor furniture is reserved to a minimum (that’s right no clutter)…

    Dramatic Color

Tan, red, black, gold, brown and grey are the central colors used in Asian decorating. The furniture is often a dark color like brown or black (mostly black) with a nice glossy shine…

    Texture

Asian decor often includes a lot of nature texture. Bamboo is a commonly used prime case: Plants, bed frames, place mats, coasters even furniture etc (list could go on). Most of the bamboo plants are placed in contains with red and or gold hues…

    Oriental Rugs (it’s a must)

You can’t be exclusive of a rug when decorating the Asian way. Rugs are what ties things together in the end at least from my experience. In fact the floor embellishment is the basis of the total decor so if that isn’t on point then nothing else will be…

Another critical element in Asian decor are screens. You know dividing screens you see in the movies separating bedrooms and dinning rooms etc? YES THOSE SCREENS! Those are so breathtaking looking and they are moderately inexpensive if you are looking for something simple (design wise). Shoji screens as the most popular ones on the marketing and range from $100-$300 in price depending on where you decide to buy from. These screens are normally black and or other dark colors…

Asian decor offers peacefulness as well as a little dramatics. Be trusty to keep in mind that clutter needs to be reserved at a minimum and use accents that stand out. This will keep your rooms exciting, simple and mind blowing. The next time you go out to eat at Asian place take note of the decor. You’ll notice that it is simple and only uses a select amount of colors or you can take a look on Google or various good oriental stores just to get a better idea and understanding of how colors are coordinated.

Halls and Stairs in Feng Shui

Considering that the front door is perhaps the most important Feng Shui characteristic, to be the mouth of the home by which the majority of the chi goes in, the hall directly after the front door is likewise essential. Ideally this hall needs to be properly lit up in order to motivate the actual access chi. Any hallway which is passing directly to this back door is not good, because chi will probably pass direct through the house without having accumulating. In such case create attractive elements like interior plants or even an area table in order to deflect the chi from its immediate way. An additional solution would be to hang up wind chimes on your ceiling of your hallway to slow the passage of the chi.

Corridors and stairways have become same at a perspective, equally currently being narrow pathways in one portion of the house to another. The only real variation is the fact that stairways are inclined pathways. Just like places, which could carry the chi from one room to another, stairways deliver the chi in one level completely to another. In staircases where the chi cannot be coaxed upward throughout enough amounts to invigorate your upper level rooms, it is occasionally practical for you to place much better lighting for the staircase per se.

This turns in the spiral type and therefore stimulates the activity of chi up the stairs. Paradoxically, however chi have to be prompted to move in the circular fashion, spiral stairs are not regarded as effective Feng Shui because they act like screw drivers, speeding up chi downwards in the lower room. Easily rushing chi can be certainly not good, hence avoid spiral staircases exactly wherever likely.

    Feng Shui and the Garden

The branch of feng shui which concerns itself with the natural landscape is called “Form School” or “Landscape School.”

Reasons for paying attention to a garden or a home’s exteriors:

    1. To make sure that the house is adequately protected from harsher elements (like wind and rain)
    2. To enhance the energies inside a house
    3. To shore up or help maintain the good energies which flow around a structure
    4. To create an extension of the house and its functions.

    Reason #1

When you have a house that is perched at the very top if a hill, it can be vulnerable to high force winds. What is needed is an armchair like landscape where there can be walls, hedges, and/or trees to protect the house from having too much wind whip around it. As well, if you had a house at the very bottom of a hill, it could be vulnerable to flooding, so the landscape would need to help divert or shield the house from an onslaught of excessive water drainage.

There always needs to be a balance. For instance, a house that has too many trees and casts a chronic shadow on the house could make the house very dark and the occupants will get depressed. At the same time, a house without any vegetation around it will feel desolate and there could even be a circumstance of too much sun beating down on it.

So, feng shui for the landscape is critical in creating the balance of yin and yang aspects.

    Reason #2

Enhancing the energies inside a house by doing something on the outside is confirmation that the two spaces work together. They influence each other. If you had a pool outside the house, but aligned very closely with an interior area that should not have any water, there could be problems as a result of that.

There are four major house types. Two of those house types should have water in the front and two of those four house types should technically have water in the back. In feng shui theory, water features are not placed randomly because they may look or feel nice, but for a very specific and targeted affect.

    Reason #3

Most properties have a defined shape to the lot itself. In a residential setting, the lot may be outlined by fences or walls, sometimes a change in the land level. If there is a gaping hole in the perimeter of the property or none at all, the end result is that the occupants will have difficulties saving money. So a major goal in the feng shui gardening techniques is to make sure this does not happen. It matters less which plants or trees are used, just so long as they are creating a less permeable border to the property.

    Reason #4

Sometimes the garden is most useful as an extension of the living space and to provide tranquil, meditative views. If a room is relatively small, but can provide large windows or glass doors leading to a garden, it gives the occupant the experience of being outside when they really are not and it makes the room inside feel bigger.

In keeping with the concept that “your home should be your castle,” having a beautiful, lush, healthy garden can also be a wonderful retreat from the stresses of life. This in and of itself is good feng shui.

    Feng Shui Garden Myths

    1. That each corner of your garden represents a life station (such as wealth or marriage). This notion was created in the 1970′s and is an extension of the “fake feng shui movement.”
    2. That your garden furniture must be a certain element (such as wood or metal) depending on where you position it.
    3. That certain colored flowers are needed in certain directions. (This is another example of people misinterpreting Five Element Theory).
    4. A tree that is aligned with a front door should be removed. This is only necessary if the tree is very close to the door and actually blocking light and access to the door.

    General Feng Shui Garden Truths

    1. A dead or dying lawn or plants will drain the land of it good “chi” or life force energy.

    2. A diseased tree or one that buckles foundation or strangles plumbing should be removed.

    3. A pool should not be too close to the house. A distance of at least 10-15 feet is preferred.

    4. Curving, meandering paths in a garden are better than straight passage ways because the chi (air currents) can develop more healthful effects when they curl and wind.

5 Simple Ways to Improve the Feng Shui in Your Bedroom

Many people like to practice feng shui in the bedroom. With feng shui, you can create a bedroom that’s a peaceful retreat and the ideal place in which to get restful sleep every night. Feng shui is basically about creating a balanced room that’s filled with positive energy.

When it comes to decorating with feng shui, there are several guidelines, but some are more important than others. Follow some of these feng shui tips to create a bedroom that’s both balanced and peaceful.

    1. Your bed should be the main feng shui element in the room.
In your bedroom, wood beds are the primary source of intimate, personal energy. An uncomfortable bed can make it very difficult for you to get restful sleep at night.

    2. Place the bed according to the feng shui position for optimal positive energy and love.
When arranging the room, you should be able to see the doorway from the bed, but it shouldn’t be directly in line with the door. The bed should also be on a strong supporting wall.

    3. According to feng shui, both sides of your bed need to be balanced in energy.
This means you have the choice of placing side tables on both sides of the bed or on neither side. Also, try to keep any sharp angles—either from the tables or from the other furniture in the room—from facing the bed.

    4. When you remove the television, you maintain balance in the room.
The less electricity flowing through your bedroom the better, as removing as many electrical appliances as possible is a key part of feng shui. EMFs can cause an internal imbalance, and your body doesn’t take them in when you remove electrical flow from the room. The distraction of a television or computer can also keep you from getting good sleep at night.

    5. Don’t become preoccupied with the rules of feng shui in your bedroom.
For instance, your bedroom may be too small for you to follow all the correct guidelines of feng shui. This attitude can cause you to feel stressed out, creating disappointment. Keep in mind that, in the end, feng shui is really about positive energy. Concentrate in making the room comfortable for you by doing what you can with the space that you have.

Some people may not believe in feng shui; others may find it too difficult to incorporate into their décor. However, the basic principle is simply to have the healthiest, most comfortable room possible. Feng shui decorating is accompanied by a long philosophical tradition, which demonstrates exactly how these principles can improve your sense of being and your life. If you’re looking to improve your bedroom or simply the feel of your wood bedroom furniture with some feng shui techniques, these tips can help get you started.
